A new day for renewable energy

The 21-megawatt, eight-turbine project by Sempra U.S. Gas and Power is nearing completion, with the final four turbine rotors expected to be installed in the next 10 days. Power is scheduled to be up and running in mid-December. The turbines are 428 feet tall, the largest ever installed on Maui. They are expected to generate enough energy to power 10,000 homes. The 9-mile gen-tie line, which transmits electricity generated by the wind turbines to a substation that connects to Maui Electric Co., will be completed this weekend.

How to Make A Business Stand Out via Pay Per Click Advertising

The Internet is one of the best places to get your business to stand out from the crowd, but it is also one of the most competitive. This is why pay per click advertising?is one of the most important online marketing tools available to any business owner. It is the fastest way of making your business popular and lucrative online.

If you own a sportswear store in the center of town, you might be competing with other sportswear stores in the area. However, when online, your sportswear store might have to go into competition with sportswear stores across the country, the continent, or maybe even the world.

PPC advertisement Tips

Learning how to stand out online via PPC advertising is an incredibly important lesson for all business owners?in the 21st Century and the rest of this article aims to explain a number of fundamental actions you can take in order to achieve pay per click success and generate a healthy return on investment every month.

1. Generate effective headlines for your advertisements

The first contact that a potential client or consumer has with your business via pay per click advertising is the initial advertisement that you construct. What?s more, your potential client is going to be paying lots of attention to the headline of your advertisement and comparing that headline not only with other pay per click advertisements on the network search page, but with other natural search advertisements that appear too.

Therefore, when running a pay per click advertising campaign one of the first things you must do is construct a number of winning headlines for your advertisements.

In general, there are three important rules to follow in order to create winning headlines for pay per click advertisements and they are as follows:

a) Use a call-to-action word at the beginning of the headline
b) Ensure that the keyword phrase you have generated this advertisement for is included in the headline
c) Make a particular reference to the kind of customer / client you are hoping to attract.

The first two pieces of advice are fairly self-explanatory. The third perhaps needs a little more clarification.

When deciding what type of Internet user you wish to target via your PPC advertising campaign, you can use your headline to make your ad stand out. If you are targeting women, for example, make sure you indicate this in the headline. If you are reaching out to people on a budget, use words like ?discount? and ?cheap? in your headline. If you are advertising to people at the forefront of a particular industry, use the word ?expert? in your headline.

The ways in which you can reach out to your target audience online via a pay per click advertisement headline are endless, but it is very easy to fail via pay per click if you don?t follow this advice.

2. Select keywords and organize keyword match types after investing in market research

One of the biggest mistakes made by pay per click advertising novices is to select keywords and place those keywords into match types without having done any market research.

Before you choose your keywords, you need to gather information and data on the following:

  • which keywords in your industry are being used by other companies and will therefore be extremely competitive to begin bidding on
  • Whether or not there are long-tail keywords?that you can utilize which will bring in highly optimized traffic and cost you very little
  • Whether or not there are keywords that users might enter when searching for a product that has nothing to do with your business but that might trigger one of your advertisements (these will become your negative keywords ? ?for example, if you own a bakery store and you name it Bluebell Bakery, your business might show up in florist searches unless you make ?flowers? and ?florist? negative keywords)

There are many other stages that you should go through in the development of effective keyword selection, but these three initial ideas are perhaps the best place to start. The big mistake made, as stated above, is to launch into a pay per click campaign without having done any market research?into your audience and how they operate when searching for things on the Internet.

Research must come first. Keyword choice and match type organization are what you do afterwards.

3. Optimize landing pages to match perfectly with your advertisements

If an advertisement states that a business is offering a 30% discount on shoes, then the landing page?cannot be a general page covering all the shoes that are available for purchase. It needs to be a dedicated page which only contains the shoes which come under the 30% discount as stated in the advertisement.

It will be very frustrating for the Internet user if he or she arrives to your site, hoping to buy a pair of shoes on a 30% discount, only to find that when they get to the checkout page the shoes that they have selected do not fall under the discount advertised. In fact, it is probable that this Internet user would avoid returning to your site in the future thanks to a bad experience.

Every single pay per click advertisement you run on the Internet must be linked to a carefully constructed and specifically optimized landing page if you want to ensure that your business stands out online.

4. Make use of search network and display network campaigns

The PPC advertisements that you will be able to run on the paid search network are most definitely the right kind of advertisements to run in order to sell your products?or your services and increase conversions. However, this does not mean that they are the best way of making your business stand out online.

The difference between a successful business and which will stand the test of time does not lie in sales alone. A business with online weighting and which dominates the online market is a business with a notable brand; a business which is recognized and remembered for the quality of its service.

This is why it is important to run both paid search and display network campaigns when aiming to make your business stand out online. Branding campaigns via the display network allow you to run image and video advertisements and instead of simply selling your product, you can provide information about your business and give reasons why what you offer would interest your target audience.

Sales and loyalty are developed via the display network?and it is one of the most effective ways, in the long term, of making your business stand out online via pay per click advertising.

5. Run a specific pay per click campaign for mobile devices

If you intend to make your mark online in the 21st Century, you cannot ignore the need to develop and manage an effective PPC advertising campaign for mobile devices.

More and more people do their Internet research and Internet purchasing from mobile devices while on the move. If your business is not featured on the mobile device advertising network, you are placing yourself at a distinct disadvantage from the very beginning.

Your website, your landing pages and your advertisements need to be configured and designed to suit mobile devices and smaller screens. Scrolling on a mobile device is a real drag and you will need to look at ways of best avoiding the need for Internet users to do anything other than click, click and click again in order to make their payment.

6. Consult a pay per click management expert or outsource your marketing needs completely

If the management of a pay per click advertising campaign appears to be daunting, this is no reason to abandon the idea. Your business needs a pay per click advertising campaign in order to make a mark online and you need to ensure that what your business needs is delivered.

Therefore, contact a pay per click management company for information. There are companies which work as consultants to give you helpful advice when you need it and there are other companies which take on the full responsibility of your pay per click campaigns too. Decide what kind of support you need and then do your research well before choosing one and signing a contract.

It is best to do some independent research into the companies you are thinking about hiring via registered and recognized authorities, such as the Better Business Bureau. You can also think about finding out whether or not the pay per click management company is Google AdWords Qualified, because not all companies are and some pay per click management experts are not as ?expert? as they would have you believe.

The most important thing is to do your research and get your PPC advertising campaign running as soon as possible. It is one of the best ways of making your business stand out online. Do not delay any further.

Four dead as train slams into parade float honouring wounded US veterans in Texas

16 Nov 2012 11:04

THE eastbound train was sounding its horn before it hit the float as it approached a railroad crossing in Midland, West Texas.

FOUR people have been killed and 17 injured after a train crashed into a parade float to honour wounded veterans in West Texas.

Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange said the eastbound train was sounding its horn before it hit the float as it approached a railroad crossing in Midland, West Texas.

He said the crossing gate and lights were working at the time.

The ruined float is inspected by police.

Mr Lange did not know if the train crew saw the float approaching.

City of Midland spokesman Ryan Stout says 10 of those injured are in critical condition at Midland Memorial Hospital, while the seven others are in stable condition.

The parade was set to end at a Hunt for Heroes banquet.

How Israel's 'Iron Dome' intercepts incoming rockets in Gaza conflict

13 hrs.

As the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians continues along the Gaza?border, Israelis have been putting to use an anti-rocket defense system called "Iron Dome" meant to intercept Palestinian?rockets that are headed?for major population centers. Along with its tally of "terror target" strikes, the Israel Defense Forces' Twitter feed has announced the number of incoming?rockets grounded by the system.

Iron Dome is actually a nickname for the "Dual-Mission Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar and Very Short Range Air Defense System," a missile?battery?that works with?sensors?to detect and intercept short- to medium-range threats like rockets. It was?commissioned by Israel in 2007 following a year in which the country endured thousands of missile attacks, mainly concentrated in the country's?northern region.

Built by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the full??system is?made up of three parts, all of which are relatively portable.?

A radar unit watches for threats in a radius up to about 40?miles.?

Information on spotted projectiles is passed to a Battle Management and Control truck, where the information is evaluated and the command is given to either intercept or ignore. The projectile data is then passed to the interceptor unit, which launches a missile programmed to cross paths with the incoming rocket or shell, and detonate it in a way that is as harmless as possible.?

This week,?Iron Dome has been up against the rockets fired by the Qassam Brigades, the?military faction of Hamas, the?Islamist political party and militant group that has been governing the Gaza Strip separately from the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority since 2007.

The rockets are crude, technologically speaking. Little more than an explosive charge attached to the end of a tube of propellant, they have not evolved much from the "buzz bombs" used by the Germans during World War II. While this means the rockets can be manufactured and deployed in great numbers, it also means that they have a relatively?slow, ballistic trajectory that is an easy target for a fast-moving, guided missile.

Each missile fired from an Iron Dome unit costs around $40,000, but the cost appears to be offset by effectiveness. The Israel?Defense Force has previously stated?that as many as?85 percent of the enemy?rockets can be intercepted. However, the?current bombardment is more intense than previous situations when the Iron Dome was in use, and in one instance, the effectiveness reported by Israel was closer to?75 percent.?As of Friday evening,?current estimates. based on IDF reports.?place rockets fired into Israeli territory at just over 600, with nearly 250 reported to be?shot down by Iron Dome missiles.

That may sound like a far cry from 85 percent accuracy, but the Iron Dome batteries simply ignore?projectiles that are predicted to land in unpopulated areas like farmland or water. So while hundreds of rockets have been allowed to strike Israeli soil, comparatively few of them are causing serious damage or casualties.

The U.S. partly bankrolled?the development of Iron Dome, beginning with a?$200 million request by President Obama?in 2010, later approved by Congress. As much or more is currently being considered for inclusion with other defense spending, though it may be contingent on a technology-sharing agreement between Israel and the?U.S. Israel introduced Iron Dome in March 2011, and it intercepted its first enemy rocket that April. ?

Apple can add Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung can add the iPhone 5, says judge

"; document.write(gstring); } }

The Apple versus Samsung battle is far from being over. Last week, we reported that Apple is planning to include the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Android Jelly Bean to its almost-endless patent lawsuit. Samsung, on the other hand, is going after the iPhone 5 because the South Korean behemoth thinks that the device has infringed its 3G standard patents as well as specific feature patents. Well, today, both companies are getting what they want because U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal has approved the requests.

?Samsung can add the iPhone 5 to its patent-infringement claims against Apple. Apple can also add infringement claims against the Samsung Galaxy Note, the U.S. version of the Galaxy S III and the Jelly Bean operating system,? Grewal ruled. However, the federal judge pointed out that the complaint against Google?s Android Jelly Bean OS is only applicable to Samsung?s Galaxy Nexus. The second proceeding is scheduled next year. Court filings reveal that a total number of 19 devices from Samsung and Apple?s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are being sought by both companies to be included in the lawsuit.

The evolution of Push-to-Talk | Commercial Carrier Journal

Transportation companies, especially those with same-day and next-day service, used to rely exclusively on radios before cellular and satellite-based communications arrived. With these latter technologies, fleets added digital voice, text and data to their enterprise, but they never forgot what radio brought to the table.

Radio gave dispatchers an unsurpassed ability to contact drivers at the push of a button for quick calling and group talking. Fortunately, the feature lived on in the Digital Age as cellular carriers developed ?Push-to-Talk? (PTT) services.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Nextel was very popular in the transportation industry because of its nationwide PTT and cellular service delivered through its iDEN network.?In 2005, Sprint purchased Nextel. Like other carriers, Sprint had already developed an IP-based PTT feature for sending voice calls to phones in its network.

To eliminate redundancy, free up network space and cut costs, Sprint announced plans this past June to shut down the iDEN Nextel network. The closure could happen as early as June 30, 2013.

Priority Dispatch, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of many fleets that has explored new options for mobile communications technology since this announcement was made. Priority Dispatch was using the iDEN Nextel network for years and came to depend on PTT to operate efficiently and meet its service guarantees.

The company provides same-day and next-day courier service in a six-state area. Most deliveries are extremely time sensitive. With PTT, the company is able to contact drivers, and drivers contact dispatch, instantaneously as events unfold. Dispatchers frequently use PTT to contact a group of drivers, for example, to see who is available to make a critical pickup.

?The ability to get hold of drivers and communicate back is paramount,? says John Pohlman, network manager for Priority Dispatch, which has a fleet of over 700 drivers. ?Drivers are how we make our bread and butter. If a driver can?t get to a delivery, or can?t tell somebody he has a problem, you lose money. It is an instant hit to the bottom line.?

Pohlman tested the current PTT services of all major networks, or carriers, before making a decision. During the testing period, Pohlman paid close attention to the coverage and speed of the carriers? PTT services. He tested the networks? coverage throughout the company?s geographic footprint, from Detroit, Mich., to the fields of Kentucky and Tennessee.

For the test, Pohlman used handheld devices that were not specific to carriers so he could ensure that Priority Dispatch would not be limited in its future choice of hardware devices.

?We found out a few things,? he says. One conclusion was that the ?set up? time or ?speed? of PTT service varied by carrier. From the time you push the PTT button to the time the phone chirps?the signal that a connection is established?varied anywhere from 2 to 20 seconds by carrier. Only one carrier, AT&T, was consistently two seconds or less.

?It comes down to the data network. If a carrier doesn?t cover you, you have a problem,? he says. ?For AT&T to function that quickly, it?s an enterprise grade app at that point.?

Priority Dispatch chose the AT&T?s 4G LTE network with the new Enhanced PTT service. He also chose the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro smartphone, a rugged device built for commercial use.
