I Spent Millions Using Microsoft Paint - ShoeMoney Internet ...

A lot of banners you see online look very attractive. Most of them are all polished up and pretty, smooth animation and crisp clean images.? But, guess what? A lot of these ads suck for direct response!

If you?re a brand you want the branding that comes with a great image so you pay your agency a pretty penny and out pops a nice creative. These creative are good for the brand and makes them sleep well at night, but for the consumer, most of them are ignored. Banner blindness is a documented phenomenon, so I want to give out a couple tricks to get around it.

Before I started WhatRunsWhere, I was a fairly successful affiliate, and made most of my money buying media. Here?s something not everyone knows though, I made most of my banners in paint. These were banners that I bought millions in media for, and they worked. Know why? Ugly works! period.

Ugly banners break the norm, as a consumer we?re so used to seeing pretty banners and as a result, banner blindness. An ugly banner sticks out, grabs attention and as a result drives a much better direct response click through rate (CTR) and as a result you?ll drive more traffic and increase sales!

I would literally go into paint, use the text tool as well as some I images sourced, and bam a banner would pop out. It?s crazy, because we tested these pretty banners as well, the ugly outperformed. I?m not saying that all your banners need to be ugly but it?s definitely worth testing.

One more very important tip is KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid! If your ad tries to do too much it will lose its appeal and the consumer glosses over it. Figure out the key point of what you want to say and say it in a qualifying way (so that the right people come to your offer), but in a simple way.

Hopefully these two tips gave you some things to think about and test. I hope your banners are ugly and your campaigns profitable.

Finding An Experienced Injury Attorney | Reference and Education ...

When you or a loved one is hurt in a car or truck accident, burned or injured by chemical exposure, hurt on a construction site, or simply frustrated by an insurance company that has refused to pay benefits that are owed, it's time you talked with a licensed injury lawyer. This article exists to help you better understand where to begin in the hunt for a good injury lawyer.

An accident or injury lawyer should be more than just "competent." The legal team that you select to represent you should be "remarkable". The personal injury lawyer you ultimately choose, should provide you with plenty of resources to help cope with all aspects of your case, answer your questions, prepare adequately for a trial, try your case (if need be) and always be prepared to argue intelligently on your behalf.

A remarkable law firm works daily to exceed your expectations. They will work to get you compensation to cover damages you have suffered, which may include but are not limited to, medical and surgical costs, lost work time (wages), anxiety, loss of consortium, pain and suffering, mileage and many out of pocket costs that you may face. Remarkable means following up with clients promptly. It means cultivating a reputation for being tough but fair, savvy and compassionate. A good law firm will make sure the clients feel comfortable, but at the same time, they need to send a message, loud and clear, to insurance companies and liable parties that they mean business. They are constantly building and using their credentials for the benefit of the clients.

Injury and accident victims often find themselves in a kind of shock after a traumatic event and do not always act swiftly enough. When a scary event disrupts everything in their world, it is only human nature to "wait a beat" to get your thoughts together before moving forward, but this is a dangerous approach and may not be the best idea. Here's the reason why: Evidence from the accident or injury may get lost or even be destroyed in the hours and days after the accident. Witness recollections will grow fainter and more inaccurate as time passes after the incident. Even your own memory of the event will give way to hazier, less accurate memories. And even worse, if you wait too long after the accident or injury, you may lose your ability to make a claim altogether, even if you have compelling evidence on your side, due to the "statute of limitations" in that state.

Every single personal injury case is unique and needs to be researched by an experienced injury lawyer. Choose an auto accident lawyer that will dedicate their time and attention to the task at hand, winning your case. Work with someone who will truly listen to what you want and need and help you feel relaxed, calm, comfortable, and taken care of throughout the duration of your case. These days, most injury law firms takes cases on a contingency basis. This means that until they win a trial verdict or reach a settlement, you do not pay a dime!

What Assets Could US Military Use Against Syrian Chemical Sites

VoA - News Friday 7th December, 2012

Western security experts say the U.S. military has three principal methods for carrying out a potential operation to secure or destroy Syria's suspected chemical weapons sites.

One option is to airlift U.S. ground forces into Syria with the goal of seizing and securing the sites, which are thought to be concentrated in the cities of Damascus, Hama, Homs and Latakia.

Parachuting troops

GlobalSecurity.org director John Pike said the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division could move a brigade into Syria within 12 hours of being given the task. The division is based in the East Coast state of North Carolina.

The U.S. military also has a small troop presence much closer to Syria.

U.S. media have reported that 150 military specialists were sent to Jordan earlier this year to train Jordanian forces in dealing with a possible Syrian chemical weapons crisis.

The U.S. specialists have been based at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center northeast of Amman. Neither the United States nor Jordan has said whether those troops could be sent into Syria.

Navy strikes

A second option for the U.S. military is to destroy Syrian chemical stockpiles with cruise missiles fired from warships in the Mediterranean.

Two U.S. navy battle groups capable of firing those missiles are on duty in the region.

The USS Iwo Jima amphibious assault group is at sea as part of the U.S. 6th Fleet, whose area of responsibility includes the Mediterranean. Pike said that is where the group spends most of its time.

The USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier group is on duty specifically in the Mediterranean. Pike said the two battle groups likely have about 500 Tomahawk cruise missiles between them.

The USS Eisenhower also has the ability to launch warplanes into Syria. Additional U.S. warplanes could be sent into Syria from a variety of air bases that United States shares with allies in Europe and the Gulf.

Regional air bases

Two of the closest air bases to Syria are in Turkey, one of the strongest regional critics of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Incirlik and Izmir bases would provide the shortest routes to the chemical weapons sites.

Pike said the U.S. Air Force also could fly some of its warplanes from bases in Western Europe to bases in Italy or Bulgaria, before dispatching them on a shorter journey to Syria.

Deploying U.S. fighter jets from air bases in Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman could be trickier.

Gulf states including Saudi Arabia oppose Mr. Assad, but any warplanes heading from their territory toward Syria would need permission to fly over several other Arab nations.

Onda's V972 tablet packs Jelly Bean and a Retina-like display for $240

Onda's V972 tablet packs Jelly Bean and a Retinalike display for $240

China's Onda was once somewhat known as a manufacturer of low-cost PMPs that packed some relatively high-end specs, but it's unsurprisingly since moved on to more of a focus on tablets. While those haven't exactly garnered much attention to date, it's latest certainly continues that high-specs / low-cost tradition. Known only as the V972, the tablet packs Android 4.1 for an OS (a 4.2 upgrade is apparently promised), and it's among the first to use Allwinner's new quad-core A31 processor. The real standout detail, though, is a 9.7-inch screen that boasts the same 2048 x 1536 resolution as the Retina iPad. Otherwise, you'll get 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, front and rear cameras, and a promised eight to ten hours of battery life -- all for $240. Those interested in taking the plunge on one will have to wait a bit longer, though -- it's currently listed as out of stock on Onda's website, and there doesn't appear to be any other retailers selling it just yet.

The 'Eight Success Drivers' You Need to Know to Strategically Plan ...

?

?

?

?

This is the first in a new Cisco Partner Talent blog series authored by Kaycee Tan, who is the marketing manager for Cisco Partner Talent. By working together, the aim of Cisco Partner Talent is to help partners attract, develop, and retain the right people with the right skills at the right time. .

Do you have talent gaps in your practice? Do you know what investments you need to make to fill them? How about some actionable steps to succeed?

Strategic Workforce Planning?(SWP) addresses these challenges, helping to ensure?our?partners are able to?link their talent strategy with their business strategy?and have the talent they need to achieve their business goals.

We encourage you to learn about the SWP ?Eight Success Driver? lessons, and see how 3M, The Principal Financial Group, and Regence have successfully implemented ?a more rigorous and business-based workforce planning process in support of better talent investment.

These lessons include:

Success Driver No. 1:??Find the Right Champion
Strategic Workforce Planning, or SWP, requires a few credible and influential champions to drive, support, and sustain a change in changing markets, for example. While a strong HR professional can be an effective champion in some organizations, experience has shown that a champion from the business side is critical.

Success Driver No. 2:? First, Believe ? Then Execute and Evaluate
Organizations that implement SWP have a fundamental belief that a more strategic, rigorous, and data-based approach to workforce planning is critical to strategy execution and, ultimately, yielding of significant benefits.

Success Driver No. 3:? Segmentation is a Disciplined Art, Not an Exact Science
Figuring how to segment job roles isn?t the same as segmenting people. Instead, it?s important to look at talent and how to determine which roles are critical for driving your firm?s long-term competitive advantage.

Success Driver No. 4:? Sound Judgment Is Still Required
Think SWP is a cure-all? It?s actually a decision-support mechanism?not a decision-making expert system. That said, rely on workforce planning to uncover data, disconnects, trouble spots?also use it to zero in on potential opportunities and make better business planning decisions.

Success Driver No. 5:? Think Globally, Start Locally
Pilot your ideas first before implementing them broadly. This will help you gather info and make modifications. It?s like your ?learning? stage.

Success Driver No. 6:? Integrate, Integrate, Integrate
SWP can?t stand alone. For success and long-term sustainability, it?s important to make sure you link it with other processes such as strategic planning, operations planning, and talent development.

Success Driver No. 7:? Human Resources Sets the Table
An organization?s leaders play a critical role in SWP. But that doesn?t mean HR isn?t just as important in supporting and facilitating any implementing and ongoing management. So be sure to engage across functions to drive business performance.

Success Driver No. 8:? Start with the End in Mind
What?s your goal? Will SWP generate what you want? Be sure to understand right from the start how it will improve your talent planning.

This is just a sneak-peek at the SWP process.

We invite you to learn how 3M?s line leaders and human resources make talent investment and business decisions that enable the organization to more effectively manage its talent portfolio based on business need.

In another case study, in just three months, initial pilots enable Regence to identify the roles that are critical to executing its strategy, locate any talent gaps in these roles, and outline the specific actions and investment needed to fill them.

While the success drivers described here illuminate practices that can improve the success of most initiatives, the most important step is taking action, going beyond conceptual talent planning discussions, and committing to SWP as a way of doing business.???

What Does It Take to Be a Multiple-Book Author? - Write Nonfiction ...

stack of booksLast Friday I learned I?ll soon be writing a second book for a traditional publisher. I couldn?t feel more proud and excited. And I couldn?t feel more afraid and overwhelmed about being a multiple-book author.

I probably have about seven or eight books I want to write and publish. Not all of them will end up with traditional publishers. Like the 10 short books I?ve already self-published, many of them will appear under my own imprint, I?m sure. And while no one else pushes me to write and publish all these books, I do.

Why Write More Than One Book

Here?s a fact you should know: The more books you sell, the more books you sell. That means the more books you write and publish, the more books you sell.

With each new book, you gain more readers. Those readers might also decide to purchase your other books if they like the first book they read. You also become a better writer, learn more about what it takes to become a successful author and increase your expert status. All of these factors add up to more book sales and a more rewarding career for you as a writer.

That?s why it?s important to consider becoming a multiple-book author. It?s also why most nonfiction book proposals include a Spin-Offs section. In this section you describe several additional books you want to write. This proves to the publisher you are not just a one-book wonder. Publishers want to invest in an author long-term; they want good publishing partners.

What it Takes to Write Multiple Books

I have to admit that the I never put a lot of effort into marketing my self-published books. They were primarily created to help me build platform as a speaker. I need a book to say I was an author and to get more speaking gigs. (However, they sell better today because of my traditionally published book.) Because a traditional publisher had invested in me and I made promises about the book, I felt the need to do more promotion?and to sell books. I had to live up to my commitments. That meant I had to do a lot of work in addition to or besides writing.

Many writers say they want to write a book a year?and some do. Many, like me, have written multiple books. Doing this is not as easy as it sounds (or maybe it doesn?t sound easy to you). Here?s what I think it takes:

  • Determination: You must be determined to achieve your goals and to fulfill your purpose as a writer and an author.
  • Commitment: You must commit to your goals, purpose and path as a writer or author, just like you would commit to a marriage partner.
  • Perseverance: You must be willing to persevere despite difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement?no matter. And that means no excuses.

(I wrote about this more extensively here.)

You also have to be able to move through common issues that arise as you find yourself with more than one book to write and promote at any given time.

  • Overwhelm: It can feel like too much, but know you can ask for and receive (pay for) help. Remind yourself you are creating the life of a writer and author.
  • Fear: Fear of success as well as fear of failure can stop you in your tracks?even cause writer?s block. You need to constantly remind yourself of why you write and take baby steps forward. Remind yourself, ?I can do this. I must do this.?
  • Hard Work: Sometimes it will feel too hard. I have days when I work so long?(you don?t even want to know), but the fact that people read my blogs and buy my books, that my book has remained an Amazon bestseller for 29 weeks and that a publisher is about to contract me to write another book makes it worthwhile. (So does seeing a video like this ones in which someone features my book! Pay attention to the books on the desk and the one Don Power picks up.)

Plus, remember that at the end of the day, knowing your books (plural) are out of your head and in the hands of readers?or at least available for purchase?leads to an important aspect of being a writer and author: fulfillment.?I can?t tell you how fulfilling it is to write and publish multiple books (and, yes, in multiple genres).? In this way I truly fulfill my purpose and my potential as an author.

And don?t let anyone tell you you can?t write a book a year?or shouldn?t?or more than a book a year. I say, write as many books in a year as you feel inspired to write. Just be aware of what it takes?and prepared?to be a multiple-book author.

Tell me: Do you plan on becoming a multiple-book author or are you one already? What?s your experience or thoughts on this writing path?

T-Mobile USA plans to ditch phone subsidies, sell iPhone in 2013

NEW YORK (Reuters) - T-Mobile USA said on Thursday it planned to stop subsidizing smartphones, the first major U.S. carrier to do so, in a move it hopes will cut costs and woo customers frustrated with restrictions on upgrades in longer-term contracts.

T-Mobile USA also announced an agreement to sell the iPhone, becoming the last big carrier to sign on with Apple Inc, which will also help it win new customers and keep existing subscribers.

U.S. operators typically pay phone subsidies, giving subscribers discounts in exchange for tying them into a two-year contract. While this helps retain customers, it also ramps up costs, particularly for the higher-priced iPhone.

The No. 4 mobile service provider, which has been struggling with customer losses, already gives customers the option to pay less for their phone service if they forego a smartphone subsidy.

Next year, T-Mobile USA plans do away with subsidies entirely, Chief Executive John Legere said in parent company Deutsche Telekom's investor meeting, which was webcast.

The move will cut T-Mobile USA's upfront costs but Legere also expects it to appeal to customers, who dislike restrictions on how often they can upgrade their phones under the subsidy model favored by bigger rivals Verizon Wireless Inc, AT&T Inc and Sprint Nextel Corp.

"We think there is huge room for a challenger to change some of that, in a way that the larger players will not be able to or will choose not to respond to," the executive said.

Under the unsubsidized model, Legere said customers will be able to upgrade their phones when they want to by trading in the device. T-Mobile USA's bigger rivals have been restricting upgrades to keep their subsidy costs under control.

He did not say when exactly in 2013 the company plans to switch entirely away from subsidizing phones. Around 80 percent of the company's new phone activations are currently from subscribers who have decided not to pay a subsidy for their device.

While T-Mobile USA has long wanted to sell the iPhone, which first went on sale at AT&T in 2007, the phone's high price appeared to stop it from reaching a deal with Apple.

Legere said that T-Mobile USA worked hard to come to a deal with Apple and promised that the Apple experience would be "dramatically different" compared to other operators.

He said T-Mobile USA did not have to make the same kind of commitment Sprint made to order a certain number of iPhones, but did not give further details about his company's deal with Apple.

Sprint agreed to pay Apple a minimum of $15.5 billion over four years for selling the iPhone.

Legere did not say when T-Mobile USA would start selling Apple products but said it would be months before he could give more details.

T-Mobile USA has agreed to merge with smaller rival MetroPCS Communications Inc next year.
