So, there's still a little while to go before Intel gives Ivy Bridge a full unveiling, with official benchmarks, pricing and all those trimmings. But in the meantime, the BBC has detailed just how different this new architecture is compared to 32nm chips like Sandy Bridge and also AMD's coming Trinity processors. Most of this stuff we already knew -- like the fact that Intel has switched to a 3D or 'tri-gate' transistor design -- but what's new is a direct and official boast about performance. According to Kirk Skaugen, Chipzilla's PC chief, we can expect Ivy Bridge to deliver "20 percent more processor performance using 20 percent less average power." Now, judging from leaked desktop and laptop benchmarks, this broad-brush claim masks some very different realities depending on what type of CPU or GPU workloads you want throw at the chip, so stay tuned for more detail very soon.
Intel's Ivy Bridge will offer '20 percent more performance with 20 percent less average power' originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 05:43:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

A couple weeks ago on Twitter, Demi Lovato bared her true face.
Now, in the pages of British magazine Fabulous, the singer is baring her soul.
In one of her more honest interviews to date, the 19-year old goes into detail about her pre-rehab drug use, telling the publication:
"I was depressed. I would come offstage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to re-create that feeling, to stay 'up.'"
And you might be shocked to learn who fueled Demi's habit.
"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs," she said. "They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass."
Lovato, of course, entered a treatment facility in November 2010 and has talked since about her emotional and physical issues, citing an eating disorder and bi-polarity. But this is the first time she's really discussed any kind of substance abuse.
"Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no'. That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."
Instead, thank God, Demi has bounced back and her career is going strong. She performed last month on American Idol.

Although Facebook didn't buy AOL's patent portfolio the other week -- it was sold to Microsoft for $1 billion -- it's going to get a good portion of those patents anyway: Microsoft and Facebook today announced that Microsoft would be selling Facebook 650 of the 925 patents that it bought from AOL to Facebook for $550 million in cash. It will also get a license for the remaining 275 patents that Microsoft bought from the AOL portfolio, which Microsoft will continue to own. Microsoft also has a license for the 300 patents that AOL still owns. At this point, Facebook will not have a license for those patents still owned by AOL. The deal gives Facebook a much stronger position in the world of patents, where it had been weak up to now and has been facing lawsuits, most notably from Yahoo, over infringement.marianas trench camille grammer camille grammer us supreme court breaking dawn part 2 trailer mississippi state chris carpenter

Having seen the video of the HTC One X drop test, regardless of how well it stood up I decided it was time for a case. I'm not usually one for phone cases, but having dropped a cool £450 on this phone, I'm a little more protective of it.
So what did I settle on? An official HTC case for one, but this one combines screen protection, a hard shell, and a kick stand all into one. The HTC One X Hard Shell with White Flip Stand -- try saying that 10 times fast.

EDM star adds stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco for what he promises will be a 'ridiculous summer.'
By Akshay Bhansali
The summer is typically when EDM acts travel to dance-music mecca Ibiza, Spain, but as dance music's upsurge in popularity in America continues, this year, all the action will be coming to a town near you.
Last year, L.A.-based "King of Cool" Kaskade brought America the Identity Festival, the country's first touring dance music festival, and now he's stepping things up with the 50-plus-date Freaks of Nature Tour. And he's bringing a few friends along for the tour, which runs from June through August (including a stop to perform at Lollapalooza).
"I'm bringing along my homeboys Alvin Risk, Fareoh, Treasure Fingers and Le Castle Vania, to a city near you really soon," Kaskade revealed to MTV News. "It's going to be a ridiculous summer!"
To mark the occasion, and certainly in an endearing salute to his California fans — he got his start in music in San Francisco — Kaskade debuted a video on Monday (April 23) announcing two blockbuster dates, one of which will make Kaskade the first solo electronic dance musician to ever headline Los Angeles' Staples Center.
The video begins at the scene of Kaskade's headline-grabbing 2011 impromptu street performance in Hollywood, where thousands of fans took to the streets with the LAPD on the scene, in full riot gear.
Through a montage of big, banging performances, set to his latest single with Skrillex, "Lick it," Kaskade revealed July 27 and 28 dates in L.A. and San Francisco, respectively, reminding the state of California that "I have not forgotten you."
"We are ready to rock it out on the Freaks of Nature Tour," Kaskade told MTV News. "Had to end that announcement with the West Coast ... I can't wait to get back to California!"
Pre-sales for Los Angeles and San Francisco will be available Tuesday with general on-sale tickets becoming available Friday at 10 a.m. PST. For a full list of tour dates, go to freaksofnaturetour.com.
Are you planning on checking out Kaskade on tour? Let us know in the comments!

Andreessen Horowitz revealed that it made $78 million off its $250,000 seed investment in Instagram's billion-dollar acquisition in a post that was meant to quell criticism that it "fumbled" its involvement with the company. "Ordinarily, when someone criticizes me for only making 312 times my money, I let the logic of their statement speak for itself," wrote general partner Ben Horowitz. "However, in this case, the narrative that some critics put forth has the nasty side effect of casting two outstanding entrepreneurs?Kevin and Dalton Caldwell?in an unfair light and glosses over an important ethical issue that we faced." While Andreessen Horowitz was one of Instagram's very earlier investors, it said it didn't follow-on because of a conflict of interest with another company it funded.?The firm had supported Picplz, another photo-sharing concept that didn't end up having as much momentum as Instagram. The company behind it eventually changed changed course and turned into App.net, which gives other mobile developers landing pages and other tools for acquiring users.houston weather dwyane wade magic mike trailer the night they drove old dixie down levon oklahoma city bombing robbie robertson
