Usher Brings 2012 BET Awards To A 'Climax'

R&B crooner let his vocals do the dancing with a simple, stripped-down performance.
By Kelley L. Carter

<P>With two spotlights shining down on him, a sleeveless Usher belted out the first notes of his summer hit, "Climax," at Sunday's 2012 BET Awards.</P><P>The R&B crooner stood center stage, wearing all black, save for a pair of hot-colored shoes, and sang the ballad with the electro-beat from his seventh studio album, <i>Looking 4 Myself,</i> in front of a live band. Some wicked, black-and-white animation danced behind him on a large screen that backlit the auditorium.</P><P>This was the first time Usher has performed at the awards show since 2010, where he also sang another ballad, "There Goes My Baby," from his <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i> album.</P><P> </P><P>The Sunday night (July 1) performance came in the first half-hour of the show and was apropos, considering that Usher's latest studio album is topping <i>Billboard</i>'s charts for the second week in a row (and his fourth #1-debuting album in a row). The dance-friendly album was just released last month. "Climax" hit #17 on the singles chart, while second track "Scream" has peaked at #13.</P><P>For his BET Awards performance, the multiplatinum, multi-Grammy-winning R&B singer kept it fairly muted. Save for a few quick microphone movements, he let his vocals dance during the performance. Even his attire was muted compared to what we've seen Usher turn out at awards shows in years past; a lone, shiny timepiece decorated his wrist.</P><P>Usher concluded his performance with a quick wave of his hand to the fans down in front.</P><P><b>Stick with MTV News as we bring you all the scoop from the 2012 BET Awards, including winners and must-see performances!</b></p>

So Good: Black-Plate 1963 Buick Riviera For Sale

This 1963 Buick Riviera is said to have belonged to one Southern California family since new and is said to be completely rust free and a magnificent driver.?Widely regarded as an?automotive design classic, the?1963-65 Riviera?represents one of the last generations?of American cars that?stood second to none on the world stage. This example appears to be a near perfect driver, with enough restoration done?to make it a turn-key beauty, yet not so original or over-restored to be stashed in a collection. Find it?here on eBay in Santa Monica California with a $25,500 Buy-It-Now.

1963 Buick Riviera For Sale Side

According to the seller, the Riviera is rust free and shows no signs of being in a serious accident. It has been re-painted once, but in the original ?Granada Red? color which makes for a nice alternative to the usual shades found on 1963-65?Rivieras. The chrome is said to be in very good condition, as are the original spinner hubcaps. The weather stripping and seals are all said to be new.

1963 Buick Riviera For Sale Rear

The interior is said to be in very good condition overall. The seller adds that seats have been re-upholstered in factory spec. leather and are flawless. The?Buick 401 V8?was replaced in the 1980s with one from a?1966 Riviera, though it still retains?the original cylinder heads. While no concours car, this example appears to be a very nice turn-key driver that should be used and enjoyed.

Fairy Tail RP Interest Check

Hey y'all, I'm just looking to pitch an idea for an RP based on the anime/manga world of Fairy Tail. It would be non-canon, so I won't be involving manga characters as long as I can help it. I don't have the full plot written yet, but I have a couple of paragraphs about the premise.

Celestia Spire: Guild of the Spirits (A FAIRY TAIL RP)

The nation of Fiore is known for it's many great guilds. Fairy Tail, Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus, Sabertooth, all fantastic yet mysterious guilds that deserve the high praise they have received. Amidst the numerous guilds in the nation, however, one remains a mystery above all else. Celestia Spire, a guild buried in the mountains in the southwest part of the country has been in existence, albeit without any members for fifty years. A guild thematically based around the Celestial Spirits, it is said that the Master was once a grand Celestial Mage, one that now only recruits those into his guild that meet an odd condition.

He seeks those born infused with the magic power of the Celestial Spirits - a process that is presumed to rarely occur to children born of Celestial Mages - first or second generation, but isn't proven with fact. These offspring, as a result, are born with a magic potential almost on par with that of a mythical Dragon Slayer, particularly when the infused magic is of a spirit of the gold keys. In a way, these mages were essentially human descendants of the spirits, and the Master of Celestia Spire wanted them all for his guild.

---

Characters would likely start out as members of other guilds / be guildless, yet end up wrapped up in this mess created by Celestia Spire's Master in an attempt to find members.

2012 NBA Draft: Pacers Introduce Miles Plumlee

Regardless of your feelings about how the Pacers arrived at selecting Miles Plumlee in the NBA draft, the fact remains that Plumlee is an Indiana native, a solid kid with a great story certainly worth rooting for when he suits up in the blue and gold.

The Pacers officially introduced Plumlee with a press conference at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon, which Plumlee handled with aplomb. He didn't shy away from answering any questions including inquiries about the negative fan reaction to the pick. That surely has no impact on Plumlee now because like it or not he will be on the roster this year so it is simply time for him to go to work.

Plumlee also made the rounds on local radio shows today and spoke about his excitement at playing with the Pacers to fulfill a dream of having his grandfather see him play in the NBA. Millard Plumlee is 91 and live in West Lafayette so his best chance to see Miles play would be with or against the Pacers. Now he can see him play with the Pacers as much as he wants.

Other than that, the press conference was about what you'd expect with Kevin Pritchard and Donnie Walsh taking mild shots at the media for trying to grade a draft less than 24 hours after the picks are made. Pretty standard, post-draft comments. Oh, and Plumlee will wear uniform number 13.

Plumlee's arrival should make summer league interesting as Pacers fans begin to learn more about Plumlee and second-round pick Orlando Johnson.

Cancellara wins prologue of 99th Tour de France

(AP) ? Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland won the Tour de France prologue for a fifth time on Saturday, beating title hopeful Bradley Wiggins of Britain by seven seconds.

"What a great opening ? again!" said Cancellara.

France's Sylvain Chavanel was third, also 7 seconds back, after the winding 4-mile time trial in Liege.

Cancellara is unquestionably the world's best time-trial rider, but the veteran isn't considered a Tour contender because he, unlike Wiggins, often struggles in the mountains.

Cadel Evans of Australia began his title defense in 13th place, 17 seconds behind Cancellara.

"I did the most I could. It's not always easy. I always do the maximum," Cancellara said after winning in 7 minutes, 13 seconds. "It's a great feeling and this certainly takes some of the pressure off."

All of Cancellara's prologue victories have been outside France. The first came in the same Belgian city in 2004, when he beat seven-time Tour winner Lance Armstrong by 2 seconds, then in London in 2007, Monaco in 2009, and Rotterdam in 2010.

At the first time check, around the midway point, he led Chavanel by one second then accelerated to the finish.

Wiggins, a three-time Olympic champion who is hoping to become the first Briton to win the Tour, said going into the prologue that Cancellara was "the best in the world" when it comes to time trials.

"I finished second, so that's a good thing," said Wiggins. "Physically I felt fantastic. I didn't take any major risk because there were a lot of tricky sections."

Evans, too, said he'd expected to be outclassed in the short prologue, and put his ride into a broader perspective.

"Not good, but not bad," the Australian said. "Of course I'd rather concede less seconds, you never want to lose time ... I've got one (general classification) rider ahead of me, but I was kind of half-expecting that. Wiggins, what his background is, is these short efforts."

"For me the real racing starts tomorrow," Evans added. "I'm just happy to get it going, and looking forward to some good racing. ... It's like 6 kilometers out of 3,500 or so, so in that regard it's a small comparison."

The Tour start offered a welcome return to racing ? three weeks of criss-crossing France, nosing into Switzerland and scaling climbs in the Alps and Pyrenees before the July 22 finish on Paris' Champs-Elysees.

Despite jittery first-day nerves, only a few riders ran into mishaps. Tony Martin, the reigning world time trial champion, was the day's highest-profile casualty. The German rider got a flat tire, raised his hand to his team staffers, and had to change bikes ? and crossed 15 seconds back of Chavanel, who was leading up to that point.

Promising young Slovak rider Peter Sagan briefly skipped off the road and lost time.

The victory offered a bright spot for Cancellara's RadioShack Nissan Trek team, which is without its leader Andy Schleck of Luxembourg ? sidelined by a spinal injury sustained in the Criterium du Dauphine this month. The team is also without manager Johan Bruyneel, who's been listed in a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency case also focusing on Armstrong. Bruyneel chose to stay away so as not to be a distraction.

In a further embarrassment, Enrico Carpani, a spokesman for cycling governing body UCI, said it received information from several RadioShack riders that they had faced delays in receiving some salary payments. RadioShack spokesman Philippe Maertens said he believed they had been paid, "and if not, there is a reason for it." He called it a "private issue."

Brushing aside the team's issues, Cancellara said he was focusing "on what I have to do ? and that's riding my bike." He said the victory, which he dedicated to his pregnant wife, was doubly rewarding because he broke his collarbone in the Tour of Flanders in April and wasn't sure he'd be at his best for the Tour prologue.

As defending champion, Evans had the honor of riding last among the 198 competitors who rolled down the starter's ramp for the race against the clock in the cycling-crazed city, where untold thousands of fans lined the route.

Sunday's first stage takes riders over a mostly flat, 123-mile loop from Liege to the nearby town of Seraing.

Last call: Wipe Trojan before 'Internet doomsday'

1 hr.

In 10 days, there's a chance you will not be able to access the Internet on your personal computer. No email, no Facebook, no Google, no Twitter ? nothing.

This potentially dire situation is due to the nasty DNSChanger Trojan, and the fateful date of July 9, on which the FBI is set to take all computers still infected with the malware offline for good. The date is being dubbed "Internet doomsday" for those who don't take action.

Launched by Estonian cybercriminals, the DNSChanger malware infected Windows PCs, Macs and routers across the world and enabled the crooks to hijack victims' Web traffic and reroute it to rigged sites.?After the FBI, in "Operation Ghost Click," busted the criminals last November, the FBI set up surrogate servers to keep the computers infected with the Trojan temporarily online so users could clean them. But on July 9, those surrogate servers are coming down.

[Will the FBI Shut Down My Computer? Questions and Answers]

This is bad news for anyone whose computer is still harboring the malware. According to a new report from Internet Identity, that unfortunate group, which at the time of the FBI sting was made up of 4 million computers and routers worldwide, still includes 12 percent of the Fortune 500.

In his Krebs on Security blog, researcher Brian Krebs cites a statistic from the DNSChanger Working Group, which estimates that more than 300,000 computers are still infected with the malware.

"That number is likely conservative," Krebs said. "The DCWG measures infections by Internet protocol (IP) addresses, not unique systems. Because many systems that are on the same local network often share the same IP address, the actual number of DNSChanger-infected machines is probably quite a bit higher than 300,000.

In the past few weeks, both Google and Facebook have undertaken notification campaigns?efforts to warn those who may still be infected with the Trojan. But if you didn't receive a warning, it doesn't mean you're in the clear.

There are ways to eradicate the DNSChanger from your system before July 9. Here's how, in three easy steps.

First, you'll need to change some settings on your computer. Click?here?for instructions on how to do so. That will make sure you're still able to get on the Internet when July 9 rolls around.

Step two is to run strong anti-virus software?that will clean up your computer. You'll probably have to pay for the software. Here's a list of?recommended anti-virus software?products.

The third step is to check your system again; if you're still seeing the Google alert, check the?DNS Changer Check-Up.

If you know your car might explode and crumble into a burning mass of parts in less than two weeks unless you got it serviced, you'd probably get it serviced, right? Do the same with your computer.

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) tie-up, network sale among RIM options

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) tie-up, network sale among RIM optionsPalm Beach, FL 6/29/12 (StreetBeat) -- Research In Motion Ltd's (Nasdaq: RIMM) board is under mounting pressure to consider unpalatable options such as selling its network business or forming an alliance with Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq: MSFT) after the Blackberry maker again delayed the release of its next-generation smartphones, said three sources familiar with the situation.

Shares in the Canadian company, which announced a steeper-than-expected quarterly operating loss on Thursday, plunged 18 percent in extended trading, slashing its market value to $4.1 billion. The stock has fallen about 70 percent in the past year.

RIM said the launch of BlackBerry 10 mobile devices has been postponed to early 2013 - more than a year later than initially promised - because the development of its new operating system had "proven to be more time-consuming than anticipated."

The latest setback has increased pressure on RIM's board to more seriously explore other options, including measures that would amount to an admission that it cannot survive by sticking to its current strategy, said the sources, who declined to be identified because the information was confidential.

One of these options is for RIM to abandon its own operating system and adopt Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had approached RIM in recent months, looking to strike a partnership similar to the one the software giant has with Nokia Oyj, the sources said. Under that partnership, Nokia will use Microsoft's latest Windows operating system on its smartphones.

In such a scenario, RIM could also look for Microsoft to buy a stake in the company and fund marketing and other expenses, the sources said. However, this option is not attractive to RIM because it would mean the end of the Waterloo, Ontario-based company's technology independence, they said.

The RIM board prefers to see through the efforts to develop the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, according to the sources.
Microsoft could also be interested in RIM's wireless patents, the sources said.

RIM and Microsoft declined to comment.

Another option for RIM would be to sell its proprietary network to a private equity firm or a technology company. The buyer could then open up RIM's network operating centers to other smartphone providers, allowing them to also provide highly secured emails and other services to companies and government agencies, the sources said.

In that scenario, however, RIM's device business is seen to have no future, they said, adding that private equity firms have been considering how to separate the hardware business from the network business.

RIM has in the past considered opening up its network to rivals, under a plan led by former co-CEO Jim Balsillie. That could offer RIM a way forward as demand for its BlackBerry phones faces fierce competition from Apple Inc's iPhone and Google Inc's Android phones.

The idea would be to clearly define the network as an asset that could exist without BlackBerry handsets - an operational precursor that could have led to a possible legal split if the handset business ultimately proved untenable.

RIM is "going to have to be much more open minded to the idea that Jim Balsillie was working on before he was ousted of opening their network to third parties," said Eric Jackson, a hedge fund manager at Ironfire Capital in Toronto.
