(AP) ? The decapitated bodies of a man and a woman were pulled from the Detroit River and a nearby canal on Tuesday, about an hour before a fisherman discovered body parts just beneath the surface, along with a circular saw and a suitcase.

The bodies, which were also missing hands and feet, didn't provide any immediate clues about the deaths or potential suspects, Detroit police said. Police wouldn't comment on whether the fisherman's grisly discovery was connected, but did confirm that additional body parts were found along the concrete and steel seawall.

"It was a gruesome sight ? something you don't want to see on the river when you want to relax," the fisherman, Hollis Fussell, told The Associated Press from the river bank as police divers prepared to go into the river.

U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted the first body from shore about 6:45 a.m. in Fox Creek, which empties into the mile-wide Detroit River. The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to retrieve the body, and on their way to Fox Creek, guardsmen found the second mutilated body floating in the river.

About an hour later, Fussell was getting ready to set up his fishing gear along the river seawall when he looked into the partially clear and greenish water near Fox Creek. About 10 feet down, he said, he saw what looked like "three legs."

"They were submerged in the water," the 53-year-old said. "A sheet was in the water. A saw was there. A suitcase, too."

The bodies and body parts were turned over to the Wayne County medical examiner's office, whose investigators wouldn't comment on the case.

Outside of the body parts found by Fussell, police wouldn't comment on whether anything else was found in the river. They also were not sure if the body parts belonged to the bodies found floating in the water.

Investigators said there were few if any clues pointing to the circumstances that led to the bodies being dumped in the water.

"I have no idea, to be honest with you. It is different," Sgt. Shawn Wesley said during a news conference not far from where the body parts were found in the Detroit River, which separates Detroit from Windsor, Ontario.

That section of the river, along the city's far east side, is popular with anglers who typically arrive around dawn during the warm summer months to fish for walleye, rock bass and other fish. Border patrol agents often patrol the area.

Fox Creek meanders through a wooded area where small clumps of trees are broken up by pockets of high grass and tall weeds. The area has received very little maintenance over the years, so trash ? plastic soda bottles, empty packs of cigarettes, clothing, even a baby's crib mattress ? litter the ground. A small boat sat abandoned on a rarely used parking lot.

The creek also connects to a series of narrow canals that abut backyards and the rear of some homes. Many of those home owners have boats and direct access to the river.

One, Nathan Izydorek, called the area a "paradise."

"It's quiet. There is little to no crime. I know all my neighbors," said the 28-year-old, who takes frequent walks near the canal and seawall.

But he said he wasn't totally surprised that bodies and body parts were found.

"It's the Detroit River," Izydorek said. "It's interesting, but I'm not going to move or anything. If I feel like going for a walk, I'll walk out here."

New York trans fat ban has cut consumption, study finds

New York City's pioneering ban on all but the smallest amounts of trans fats in restaurant food has led to a significant reduction in consumption, a change that should translate into better cardiovascular health in the nation's largest city, according to a new report. It also demonstrates that coffee shops, fast-food joints and other eateries can play a major role in improving the health of the public, the study authors said.

Officials from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene conducted the study to assess whether the regulation that took effect in 2008 ? which prohibits all restaurants from serving food prepared with partially hydrogenated vegetable oil or dishes that contain more than 0.5 gram of trans fat per serving ? was making a difference for diners.

Public health officials had zeroed in on trans fats because they pose a uniquely potent health risk. Adding fewer than 4.5 grams of them to a 2,000-calorie daily diet can increase the risk of coronary heart disease by 23%, studies have found.

Researchers fanned out across Manhattan in 2007 and examined the receipts of 6,969 diners as they left fast-food restaurants at lunchtime. (The researchers went to fast-food chains because the nutrition information on the items sold there was readily available.) In 2009, they repeated the exercise with 7,885 receipts. They found that diners consumed 2.4 fewer grams of trans fat per lunch after the ban went into effect, according to their study published in Tuesday's edition of Annals of Internal Medicine.

That decline was offset by only a slight 0.55-gram increase in consumption of saturated fats, which are also associated with elevated cholesterol levels.

"Given that one-third of calories in the United States comes from food prepared away from home, this suggests a remarkable achievement in potential cardiovascular risk reduction through food policy," the authors reported.

Alice Lichtenstein, director of the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory at Tufts University in Boston, said the findings showed "that public health initiatives, if done right, seem to work." A key factor, she said, was that diners didn't have to choose: "The environment has been shifted so that you automatically will get the healthier option."

New York MayorMichael R. Bloomberghas taken an active role in efforts to improve public health. In addition to leading the fight against trans fats, he has required chain restaurants to post calorie information on their menu boards and called for a ban on super-sized sugary drinks.

Trans fats are found naturally in meat and dairy products, but the biggest source in the American diet is processed oils, commonly partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. Favored for their shelf-stable qualities, such oils were widely used in baked and fried foods.

The researchers found that the proportion of meals purchased that contained zero grams of trans fat rose from 32% before the ban went into place to 59% afterward. And they found that the benefits were shared equally by diners in working-class neighborhoods and patrons in tonier sections of the city.

Other cities and states followed New York City's lead, including California in 2008. The federal government also required manufacturers to list the amount of trans fats contained in processed foods, beginning in 2003.

The food industry has responded by reformulating its products.

Nationwide, the average daily consumption of trans fats has gone from 4.6 grams in the 1990s to 1.3 grams in 2010, said Kelley Scanlon, an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Things are clearly much better."

However, in a report this month in the Journal of theAmerican Medical Assn., Scanlon and a CDC colleague noted that trans fats are still found in many processed foods, including up to 7 grams a serving in some microwave popcorns. More needs to be done, she said.

The changes made by restaurants were costly but necessary, said Joy Dubost, director of nutrition and healthy living at the National Restaurant Assn.

"The science is very convincing with regard to consumption of trans fats, so the industry had been working on this," she said.

The association would not say how much it had cost restaurants to switch from trans fats to more healthful fats because the information was proprietary. Several individual restaurant chains declined to discuss costs as well.

Whatever the expense, frequent food industry critic Kelly Brownell said the study suggested the public should be skeptical when big companies resist change.

"They said it would narrow the range of consumer products; that didn't happen," said Brownell, director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University. "They said it would affect the taste, and that didn't happen. They said there would be no benefit, and that didn't happen."

Phuket holds 'Save Energy Training Project' by Phuket Index News

Phuket holds ?Save Energy Training Project?

On 16th July 2012 at Phuket Community Hall, Mr.Somkiet Sankhawsutthirak ? Deputy Governor of Phuket together with Mr.Jirasak Thammawech ? Phuket Energy Office held a ?Save Energy Training Project? for a number of Phuket?s student.

Mr.Jirasak said ?Energy is essential to life; everyone needs energy and the amount needed is rising every day. Unfortunately, Thailand doesn?t have enough of its own sources to provide energy and therefore we have to import from other sources. Too much budget is spent importing energy every year, especially to Phuket. Phuket, is a small province, but is in the top ten provinces when it comes to use of energy, mainly due to the 8million or so tourists that visit every year.?

The objective of the training project was to educate youths with regards to energy, which is limited and could be lost in the future. It is hoped that by training Thailand?s next generation they will take their knowledge back to their schools and families and spread their knowledge amongst other.

Penn State's 'Paternoville' to be 'Nittanyville'

(AP) ? Paternoville will now be Nittanyville.

The Penn State student group that manages the area outside Beaver Stadium where students camp out for prime football tickets has changed the name of the tent city that spouts up the week before home games in Happy Valley.

The also-renamed Nittanyville Coordination Committee said Monday that student officers decided the name change would "return the focus to the overall team and the thousands of students who support it."

Late coach Joe Paterno was fired in November soon after his former assistant, Jerry Sandusky, was charged with child sexual abuse. Sandusky awaits sentencing after being convicted last month of abusing 10 boys. He has maintained his innocence.

An independent investigation led by former FBI Director Louis Freeh released a report last week that concluded Paterno and other top Penn State administrators concealed Sandusky's abuse to shield the university from bad publicity.

On its website, the student organization that runs makeshift campgrounds said that "since it was unlikely another coach would stay as long as Coach Paterno had, changing the name for each new coach would be impractical."

"Now, it's a new era of Nittany Lion football," committee President Troy Weller said in a statement released Monday. "And by changing the name to Nittanyville we want to return the focus to the overall team and the thousands of students who support it. We thank the Paterno family for their gracious assistance and support over the last several years."

Students at this year's encampment plan to donate some fundraising proceeds to a child abuse prevention and treatment center.

The tent city was dubbed Paternoville in 2005, and the student organizing group became an official university organization, recognized by the office of student affairs, the following year.

Ride of Your Life: Shevi Arnold Author Interview | A. R. Silverberry

Ride of Your Life, By Shevi Arnold

Ride of Your Life, By Shevi Arnold

A dozen years ago, I met Shevi Arnold through SCBWI. She was one of the most helpful and supportive members on the discussion board, answering the myriad questions about writing, formatting, marketing, and the like that I and other neophyte writers had. When SCBWI opened up a new area on self-publishing, Shevi was right there, giving active leadership and input. Since then, I?ve gotten to know her better through several groups she has started on Facebook, and she continues to be a wonderful and knowledgeable resource for indie authors. Shevi manages to do all this while doing her own writing. After working for many years in newspapers and magazines as an editorial cartoonist, illustrator, editor, arts-and-entertainment writer and consumer columnist, Shevi now writes and illustrates humorous fiction, fantasy, and science fiction, mostly for children and teens. Join us now as this busy, talented, and award-winning author stops by to answer a few questions about her new, young adult, paranormal novel.

?

Silverberry: What gave you the idea for Ride of Your Life?

Shevi: Ride of Your Life was inspired by the Great Adventure Haunted Castle fire, which killed eight teenagers on May 11th, 1984. I was a teenager myself at the time, and I had been to Great Adventure on numerous occasions. My family had a season pass there in the early eighties. When I heard about the fire, I was shocked and saddened. Those teenagers were like me. It was even possible that I had met one or two of them. And now, because of this terrible tragedy, they were gone.

Ride of Your Life
came about because in my mind I wanted to give that awful event a happy ending, and so I fictionalized it and turned it into a romance that develops between two teenage ghosts thirty years after the fire. It?s a bittersweet romance, but it has as happy an ending as a tragedy like that could have.

Silverberry: What's the story about?

Shevi: Tracy Miller is a 17-year-old girl who died in a fire in the House of Horrors at the Amazing Lands Theme Park 30 years ago. At the start of the story, she tries, and fails, to save 17-year-old Josh Stockwell from meeting a similar fate.

Josh has been dreaming about Tracy for weeks, and as soon as he meets her, he knows it was fate that brought the two of them together. But there is something holding Tracy back, something keeping her from passing on from the ghost world to the Light, something that makes her afraid to love Josh in return. Can Josh help her let go of the past and finally accept love?

Silverberry: What was it like writing the thoughts and feelings of characters who had died?

Shevi: I just treated Josh and Tracy like regular teenagers. Their thoughts and feelings are pretty much the same, even if what they?re experiencing and how they are experiencing it is different.

Silverberry: What were some of the implications you had to deal with as a writer because the characters were dead?

Shevi: Of course I had to deal with what it means to be dead. If you?re dead, you aren?t going to grow or change. You don?t have to worry about your grades or social status or any of the millions of things teens tend to obsess over. It also means these characters can focus on the things that really matter, which in this case means themselves and each other.

Dealing with dead characters also meant I had to create a ghost world for them to live in with certain rules. In Tracy and Josh?s world, you experience what you believe you experience?for good and bad. This isn?t wish fulfillment. Sometimes the ghosts experience horrible things because they?re stuck thinking that these are the things that should happen. As Tracy explains to Josh in an early scene in the book, if you fall and think you?re going to break your leg, you will break your leg. You might think having characters who can?t die because they?re already dead would take the tension out of the story, but by the end of the story, Josh discovers there are worse things than being dead.

Silverberry: What is your approach to crafting stories?

Shevi: I like to think about a story for a long time before I write it down. There are just so many stories in my head, and I don?t have the time to write them all. It has to be a great story, and there?s no way for me to know it?s a great story until I?ve written it from start to finish in my head first.

Once I know that it?s a story I want to share with others, I?ll start with an outline and maybe some background information, character sketches, and several fully formed scenes. The outline at this stage is still malleable. I?ll change it and change it until I?m confident that it?s exactly the story I want it to be. Only then will I start writing the first draft.

?

I also outline each chapter before I write it. I feel this gives me a road map that starts me off in the right direction each time I sit down to write. If I get to a scene I?m not happy with, I can always just leave a brief outline and skip ahead to a scene I?m more enthusiastic about writing.

Sometimes I?ll edit the previous chapter before I continue writing. I call this process ?backstitching,? and I find this helps get my mind back into the story at the start of a writing session. Other times, I?ll write almost with blinders on so that I can write quickly. Either way, most novels take me a year to write and edit.

Silverberry: You're also an illustrator. How does that help you as a writer?

Shevi: Sometimes I?ll use illustrations as a part of the storytelling process. My first novel, Dan Quixote: Boy of Nuevo Jersey is illustrated, while both Toren the Teller?s Tale and Ride of Your Life have illustrated chapter headers. I feel this gives my novels an added dimension.

Other times, I?ll draw my characters before I write their stories, because it shows me things about them. I have a drawing of Toren from
Toren the Teller?s Tale, which hangs from a bookshelf over my desk. There?s an attitude in that drawing that pulls me into her world and dares me to tell her story. I have another one of Gilbert Garfinkle from my upcoming humorous YA science-fantasy novel, Why My Love Life Sucks, and the look on his face says, ?Uh, oh, what are you planning to put me through this time?? It reminds me of what I call Murphy?s Law for fiction writers: ?If anything can go wrong, it should.?

?

Silverberry: Tell us about some of your other books!

Shevi: Dan Quixote: Boy of Nuevo Jersey is a funny middle-grade novel about two best friends?one a dreamer and one a realist?who discover that the answers to bullying and peer pressure are staying true to yourself and your friends.

Toren the Teller?s Tale
is an epic fantasy novel about a teenage girl who discovers the magic of storytelling and struggles to accept that magic within herself. Readers have been calling the way it's written mesmerizing and are saying that after reading it, "You will absolutely believe in Magic."

?

Silverberry: I love your titles! What's one question you wished someone would ask, but no one has?

?Can I give you a million dollars, no strings attached??

Silverberry: Who has influenced you the most as a writer, and why?

Shevi: I started telling stories when I was just a kid, so it?s hard to say. Every story I?ve ever heard or saw in every medium has taught me something. Sometimes they teach me what I like, and sometimes they teach me what I don?t like. I think I learn the most from stories I wish I could read but can?t because they haven?t been written yet. It?s the literary equivalent of negative space. There?s this gap on an imaginary bookshelf, and it?s just going to drive me crazy until someone fills it. That someone might as well be me.

?

Silverberry: What's ahead for you?

Shevi: I?m working on the final edits of Why My Love Life Sucks: The Legend of Gilbert the Fixer(book one), which I plan to publish before the end of the summer. It?s a funny science-fantasy novel about the ultimate teenage geek?s ultimate nightmare. It received great reviews when it was a quarter finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards contest a few years ago, and I?m super excited about sharing it with readers. This is the series that proves it takes the ultimate geek to be the ultimate hero, and I think it?s a message we all need to hear loud and clear. I'm a geek, and I'm proud of it!

Where the young have toughest time finding work

Albert Gea / Reuters

Recession-plagued Spain unveiled new austerity measures on Wednesday designed to slash 65 billion euros from the public deficit by 2014.

By Michael B. Sauter and Alexander E.M. Hess, 24/7 Wall St.

Unemployment in the European Union hit a record high in May. According to data provided by Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the 17 EU economies hit 11.1 percent, up from 10 percent the year before. There are now a quarter of a million more unemployed people in Europe than there were a year ago. During that period, the unemployment rate in those countries for those 25 and younger jumped from 20.5 percent to an unbelievable 22.6 percent. Meanwhile, in the United States, the youth unemployment actually fell from 17.2 percent to 16.1 percent.

Despite the improvement in the U.S., the worsening trend of unemployed young people highlights the severity of the issues facing many of Europe?s major economies. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the 29 nations included in the report (most of which are in Europe, but they also include the U.S. and Japan) and identified the 10 nations with the highest unemployment rates among those 16 to 25.

With a few exceptions, most of these countries have been hit hardest by the recession. The so-called PIIGS countries of Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain -- infamous for their contribution to the European sovereign debt crisis -- are on the list. The remainder are not as infamous but nonetheless have been hit harder than the rest of the developed world.

Some of the countries with the highest youth unemployment rates -- which in several cases exceed 50 percent -- also have some of the highest overall unemployment rates as well. Spain, which tied with Greece for the highest youth unemployment rate (52.1 percent), also had the highest total unemployment rate of the 32 countries examined. All of the other countries on our list for which data is available had among the top 10 overall unemployment rates in May.

24/7 Wall St.: The 10 most educated countries in the world

As evidence of the level of fiscal difficulty some of these governments are in, their sovereign credit ratings are among the worst in Europe. Nine of the 15 with the worst youth unemployment rates have a Baa3 rating or worse. Ireland and Portugal both have Ba ratings, while Greece is the only country in Europe with a C, or junk, rating. Countries with the lowest youth unemployment rates are almost without exception rated well by Moody?s. Only one of the 15 countries with the lowest rates has a worse rating than A1.

The countries with this severe unemployment also experienced the worst GDP contractions the European Union has seen in its brief history. In 2009, the gross domestic product of nearly every country in Europe (as well as Japan and the U.S.) fell. Latvia and Lithuania, which have two of the highest youth unemployment rates, had the highest single-year contractions in the EU in recent history, at 14.7 percent and 18 percent, respectively. In 2010, the most recent year of data, most of these economies bounced back, with the exception of five, which continued to contract. These five -- Lithuania, Greece, Croatia, Spain and Ireland -- are all on this list.

Using unemployment data published by Eurostat, which records data for sovereign European nations, the U.S. and Japan, 24/7 Wall St. identified 10 countries where young people cannot find a job. Eurostat defines unemployed persons as being aged 16 to 74, without work, able to start within two weeks, and having actively sought work in the past four weeks. Youth unemployment rates specify a narrower age range of 16 to 25. GDP data, including annual growth rates, come from the World Bank, which uses current U.S. dollars. 24/7 Wall St. also consulted Moody?s Investor Service?s sovereign credit ratings.

24/7 Wall St.: The 10 companies that spend the most on politics

These are the countries where young people cannot find a job:

1. Spain?(tie)

  • ?Youth unemployment rate: 52.1 percent
  • ?Overall unemployment rate: 24.6 percent
  • ?GDP in 2010: $1.4 trillion
  • ?GDP growth in 2010: -0.14 percent
  • ?Moody?s credit rating: Baa3

Since 2010, Spain has maintained the highest overall unemployment rate of all countries surveyed. In May 2012, the country?s youth unemployment rate caught up to that of Greece?s 52.1 percent, the highest rate in the study. Recent indicators suggest increasing economic weakness in Spain: the Markit Spain Manufacturing PMI, which tracks manufacturing growth, registered the lowest score in 37 months and the fifth-consecutive negative month. On June 13, rating agency Moody?s downgraded Spanish government debt from?A3 to Baa3, and placed it on review for future downgrades. The effect of all this is a generation that,?despite being well educated, has nowhere to work and lives with parents longer than ever.

  • ?Youth unemployment rate: 52.1 percent (March 2012)
  • ?Overall unemployment rate: 21.9 percent (March 2012)
  • ?GDP in 2010: $301 billion
  • ?GDP growth in 2010: -3.52 percent
  • ?Moody?s credit rating: C

As Europe?s sovereign debt crisis has unfolded, Greece was revealed as one of the countries with the worst problems. The country?s overall unemployment rate increased from 7.7 percent in 2008 to 21.9 percent in March 2012. Since December 2009, Moody?s has downgraded Greece?s sovereign credit rating seven times, from A1 to C. In 2009, central government debt reached 141.97 percent of GDP, while GDP fell by 3.25 percent -- before falling again by 3.52 percent in 2010. This has severely affected Greece?s youngest workers, 52.1 percent of whom were unemployed as of March. In Greece?s June national election, much of the youth vote flocked to?SYRIZA, a leftist and anti-austerity party promising to deal with the youth unemployment.

3. Croatia

  • ?Youth unemployment rate: 41.6 percent
  • ?Overall unemployment rate: 15.8 percent
  • ?GDP in 2010: $60.85 billion
  • ?GDP growth in 2010: -1.19 percent
  • ?Moody?s credit rating: Baa3

Although unemployment rose considerably following the financial crisis, young Croatian workers have had a particularly difficult time. Since 2008, Croatia?s youth unemployment rate has nearly doubled from 21.9 percent in 2008 to 41.6 percent in May. The former Yugoslav nation?s GDP fell by 5.99 percent in 2009 and by 1.19 percent 2010, and problems still persist. In late 2011, the World Bank announced Croatia was likely?to re-enter a recession, and early indications suggest the economy is once again contracting. This probably will exacerbate unemployment concerns for both the general population and young Croatians alike.

4. Slovakia

  • ?Youth unemployment rate: 38.8 percent
  • ?Overall unemployment rate: 13.6 percent
  • ?GDP in 2010: $87.27 billion
  • ?GDP growth in 2010: 4.24 percent
  • ?Moody?s credit rating: A2

In recent years, Slovakia featured among the highest unemployment rates in all of the European Union. Yet, like many other European countries, unemployment in Slovakia has risen dramatically in recent years, reaching a post-financial crisis peak of 14.5 percent in 2010. Though the total unemployment rate declined shortly thereafter, the youth unemployment rate has continued to rise. In April, the youth unemployment rate jumped to 39.7 percent from 34.5 percent the month before. Slovakia?s new prime minister, Robert Fico, is reportedly?considering constructing?public housing facilities and providing subsidies in order to reduce youth unemployment.

5. Portugal

  • ?Youth unemployment rate: 36.4 percent
  • ?Overall unemployment rate: 15.2 percent
  • ?GDP in 2010: $228.57 billion
  • ?GDP growth in 2010: 1.38 percent
  • ?Moody?s credit rating: Ba3

Portugal?s unemployment rate has increased from 14.7 percent in January to 15.2 percent in May 2012. This trend is far more exacerbated among Portuguese youth. In 2000, youth unemployment rate in Portugal was just 10.5 percent, but has risen consistently since. This year, the country?s monthly youth unemployment rate has frequently exceeded 35 percent. Portugal has emerged as one of the areas of greatest concern in the European sovereign debt crisis, its credit rating from Moody?s having been downgraded five times in the past three years. In order to combat its rising youth unemployment, Portugal promised to reimburse companies for up to 90 percent of social security contributions made for workers between the ages of 16 and 30 if they had previously been unemployed for more than four months.

NUMC to Offer Lymphedema Therapy to Breast Cancer Surgery ...

Arthur Gianelli, the President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced the start of a lymphedema therapy service to be offered in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) to women suffering from the debilitating effects following breast cancer surgery.

Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid which causes chronic inflammation of affected tissue. Lymphedema is a common side effect of breast cancer treatment in particular. While it is not life threatening, it is however uncomfortable with numbness and infection possibilities.

?Under the leadership of Lyn Weiss, MD, chair, and Lyn Alkes, OTR, RN, certified lymphatic therapist, women suffering from a common side effect of breast cancer will benefit from a combination of techniques which include manual compression, lymphatic massage, compression bandages and/or customized garments and remedial exercises, helping to restore optimum function to women following breast cancer surgery,? said Gianelli. ?It is very important to treat lymphedema as soon as it develops in order to avoid and control complications going forward.?

?We are delighted to offer this new and much needed service to help make a difference in a woman?s life, especially those recovering following breast cancer surgery,? Dr. Weiss said. ?Ms. Alkes underwent extensive training to gain proficiency in treating these patients. This therapy will help to relieve discomfort and pain , help to restore optimum function and improve their lives.?

Decongestion therapy consists of stimulating the skin and the underlying multitude of lymphatic vessels by a well trained hand of a certified lymphatic therapist. Customized bandages are applied at the end of the treatment session with the goal to minimize the re-accumulation of fluid and to reshape the limb so that it resembles the unaffected limb. The compression sleeve is an elasticized sleeve, customized to patient?s limb and can be used alone or with manual lymphatic drainage.

For additional information of for a consultation, please call 516-572-6533. Lymphatic therapy service is covered by most forms of insurance, with bandages or compression garments provided partly or on a sliding scale.

HR Needs To Be Part of The Move To The Cloud | Innovation

If someone from HR is not at the table during your next meeting about moving processes and data to the cloud, you may be putting the project at risk. In a recent report by Deloitte on trends in human capital, the consulting firm notes that a benefit-heavy migration to cloud services can be disruptive to an organization too. Without HR support, some members of the enterprise could have trouble adapting to the change.

For example, IT organizations may have to absorb new responsibilities and skills, including an increased focus on supplier management, business requirements, and customer needs. Simultaneously, other departments are going to have to adapt. Cloud-based technology will put daily IT decision making in the hands of end users, giving business leaders and managers more autonomy and influence over the systems, processes, data, and tools they use. Look at how some consumerization of mobile devices is empowering employees to select their own work tools.

End-users are going to have to adapt too, and more frequently.? Says Deloitte, the cloud ?requires new learning and development techniques to help users adjust to a never-ending stream of technology changes and enhancements.?

Deloitte reviewed how many HR organizations help their companies transition processes to the cloud. Here are five practical lessons that can help HR teams accelerate cloud adoption and ease the transition across the business.

  • It?s Not All About Technology ? A migration to cloud services may require significant organizational changes. Aligning the workforce with the cloud-inspired vision is vital to its success.
  • Become a Cloud Champion ? One of the key benefits of cloud technology is the increased speed of decision making. Take steps to move the organization away from a consensus-culture to more agile, independent decision making.
  • Seed Your Cloud ?The market for employees with cloud-related skills is heating up. Learn how to recruit, manage, and develop cloud-savvy talent.
  • Rethink Business Manager Skills ? Recruit or develop management level people who understand the cloud and can identify its business value. More than ever, business owners will need to have a better handle on what technology can deliver to reap its real benefits.
  • Think Fast ? Ensuring that every member of your team can keep up with new features and improvements will require a very nimble change management and training organization. More efficient and effective on-demand learning and development techniques will be required.

The Deloitte report provides more information about the role that HR is playing in the successful implementation of cloud technology.? Take a look and let us know what you think.
