Montreal Canadiens Uniform Rated Top in All Sports

? Now the Flyers Are Mocking Us

Paul Lukas at ESPN writes a blog called Uni Watch, and over the course of the week, he has rated the top uniform packages in all of the 4 major North American sports leagues. In his rankings of 122 teams, he put the Montreal Canadiens at the top of the list for this package:

Lukas appreciates the color usage and boldness, as well as the classic design of the uniform. I personally prefer a uniform with the bright yellow/gold of a uniform like the Boston Bruins, but then, a uniform?s attractiveness is entirely subjective. What do you think?

Port Authority, church can't come to agreement on Showcase site

Laura Brunner, CEO of the Port Authority, said the Port and Corinthian Baptist Church couldn't reach an agreement on the former Showcase Cinemas site.

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and Corinthian Baptist Church ended negotiations on the former Showcase Cinemas site in Bond Hill.

Laura Brunner, CEO of the Port Authority, said the two sides couldn?t come to an agreement on the amount of land each group would own and the purchase price.

?We were too far apart on the price and the acres,? Brunner said.

The Business Courier reported on the Port and the church entering into a 90-day option on the 30-acre plot at Reading Road and the Norwood Lateral in March.

The Port wanted to buy 23 acres from the church, but the church was only willing to sell 20 acres, Brunner said.

Even though this deal fell through, she said there is interest in the site from other developers.

?It will be developed. There?s a lot of desirability to the site,? she said.

As for the Port, Brunner said it is moving on to other projects. But she wants to use this project as a model for others, working with nonprofits and community partners on development.

How well you monitor and manage your finances can determine whether your enterprise ultimately succeeds or sinks. That?s why now, more than ever, small-business owners are exploring how time-honored techniques and the latest technologies can help make accounting substantially less cumbersome.

Here are 5 tips for streamlining and simplifying your accounting practices:

1.? Understand the basics. New entrepreneurs routinely underestimate how critically important sound accounting practices are to the viability of a business. Those who fail to make accounting a priority run the risk of serious errors. From missing payments to incorrectly withholding taxes, no shortage of potential threats to one?s general bookkeeping ? and to the business itself ? may arise from slapdash accounting habits.

2. Stay organized. Accurate record keeping is the proverbial glue that holds your business together. Records that are improperly updated could lead to disaster. On the other hand, accurately maintaining your books through exceptional organization will help you avoid problems ? or at least expose them before they become too onerous and costly to resolve.

3. Select software wisely. Your selection of accounting software is, without question, one of the most important decisions you will make for your business. Fortunately, going high tech doesn?t have to be hard. ?To buy a program like QuickBooks is the best thing you can do to get started with accounting in your business,? accountant Peter Tumbas of Tumbas CPA tells the Intuit Small Business Blog. ?The capabilities of today?s leading accounting software should help you avoid most ? if not all ? major and most common accounting problems.?

4. Trust technology. It isn?t enough to simply purchase accounting software; you have to make the most of it. Reducing the likelihood for human error in your bookkeeping is one of the best ways to ensure that your records stay accurate. By learning how to use the full scope of features in your accounting software, you can automate tasks, reduce paper waste, double-check your work, and make general accounting chores significantly less frustrating.

5. Be consistent. Consistency is essential to successful small-business accounting. In fact, nowhere are the dangers of a slippery slope more evident than they are here. As soon as you grow lax in documenting sales, expenses, and other simple but critical data, the entire accounting process can quickly deteriorate into a massive ? and potentially very expensive ? headache. Fortunately, being consistent doesn?t require much more than establishing sound practices and a strict adherence to them over the long haul.

IAEA says Iran meeting fails

The UN atomic watchdog said that "intensive" talks Friday with Iran had failed, with no plans for a follow-up meeting to persuade Tehran to address evidence of suspected nuclear weapons research.

"As in our last meeting in June we intended to finalise a structured approach paper that has been under discussion for many months," International Atomic Energy Agency chief inspector Herman Nackaerts said after the meeting in Vienna.

"Discussions today were intensive, but important differences remain between Iran and the agency that prevented agreement on this structured approach paper.... At the moment we have no plans for another meeting," he told reporters.

But Iran's envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, was more positive, saying that some progress had been made in the meeting and that more talks would take place.

"Issues related to the national security of a (IAEA) member state is something very delicate," Soltanieh told reporters.

"I have to say that we are moving forward and this meeting in fact was an indication that we can work with the agency closely and we are going to continue this process.

"I wish that in the next round of the meetings and in the continuation of the process you will see that we are on the right track."

The IAEA wants Iran to explain indications that until at least 2003, and possibly since, Tehran carried out "activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device".

It wants access to specific documents and to scientists involved in Iran's programme, as well as to sites, including the Parchin military base near Tehran, which it visited twice in 2005 but wants to look at again.

So far Iran has flatly rejected the claims, set out in a major IAEA report last November, saying they are based on forged documentation, and denied seeking -- or ever having sought -- to develop atomic weapons.

Iran has said it will allow monitors access only as part of a wider arrangement governing relations between Iran and the watchdog, which experts and diplomats say would limit the IAEA's inspection rights to an unacceptable degree.

Western countries have accused Iran of bulldozing parts of Parchin to remove evidence, and the IAEA said in May that activities spotted there by satellite "could hamper the agency's ability to undertake effective verification."

The meeting comes as Iran faces unprecedented sanctions pressure, and amid heightened speculation that Israel may bomb Iran's nuclear facilities.

NASA sees newborn Tropical Storm Joyce in the Central Atlantic

Tropical Depression 10 appeared more organized on NOAA's GOES-13 satellite imagery early on Aug. 23 (Eastern Daylight Time) and it was renamed Tropical Storm Joyce by the National Hurricane Center by 11 a.m. EDT

When NOAA's GOES-13 satellite captured an image of Tropical Depression 10 (TD10) on Aug. 23 at 7:45 a.m. EDT it appeared to have a well-rounded circulation. Infrared imagery indicated cold cloud top temperatures. Cold cloud top temperatures as cold as -63 Fahrenheit (-52 Celsius) show strength in the uplift of air that helps create strong thunderstorms that make up the tropical cyclone. The GOES-13 image was created using the NOAA satellite data at NASA's GOES Project, located at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

On Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Joyce had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kmh). Joyce was located far from land, about 1,305 miles (2,105 km) east of the Leeward Islands near 15.2 North latitude and 42.2 West longitude. It was moving to the west-northwest near 17 mph (28 kmh).

Satellite data indicates that Joyce is dealing with a dry Saharan air layer, something that usually saps a tropical cyclone's warm, moist air. That dry air is wrapping around the southwestern part of Joyce's circulation.

The Saharan Air Layer is one thing that NASA is going to investigate in its upcoming Hurricane Severe Storm Sentinels (HS3) mission in September, using unmanned aircraft. For more information, go to: http://www.nasa.gov/HS3.

The National Hurricane Center noted that Joyce is following the southern edge of a subtropical ridge (elongated area) of high pressure over the Central Atlantic Ocean. Think of a marble rolling around the edge of a round clock. Once Joyce (the marble in this example) reaches the western edge, it will begin to turn to the northwest and then to the north.

Tips for Using Calorie Counting Effectively - fitness and health

This is a guest post by Roxanne Porter (www.nannyjobs.org)

A lot of times when people first start off on their journey to health and fitness they turn to calorie counting to keep track of how much they?re eating. The process of recording calories can be a beneficial one, keeping you accountable and aware of how much food you?re consuming, but it can also be misleading and somewhat defeating if you go into it blindly. If you?ve decided to start using calorie counting as a means of tracking your food, use these tips to do so effectively:

Don?t rely solely on calories.

It seems simple enough ? you count calories and come in at or below a certain number and you hit your goal, go over and you didn?t. However there?s more to it than just that: the quality of the food you?re eating plays just as important of a role as the number of calories in it. You could eat 2000 calories a day of donuts and pretzels and it won?t be even close to the same thing as eating 2000 calories a day of eggs, lean cuts of chicken, fruits, and vegetables. One of those options is better for you; it?s not the donuts and pretzels.

Remember to factor in exercise, but don?t overestimate how many calories you?ve burned.

The days that you work out you?re going to need more calories to make up for the ones you burned during exercise. However many people overestimate how many calories they burn when they work out. You can?t get calorie-laden frappucinos with breakfast or go for fried chicken for lunch just because you hit the gym for an hour before work because more often than not you?ll end up consuming far more calories than you burned off. Instead tack on an extra 100-300 calories to your day and then continue to make healthy food choices.
Learn portion sizes.
Portion sizes are tricky and it?s easy to guesstimate a portion size and be completely off base. When eating cuts of chicken, meat, or fish, your serving should be no larger than the size of a card deck. This is especially important if you?re going out to eat because most people severely underestimate how many calories are in restaurant meals and can end up wrecking their calorie count for the day because of this. It?s also helpful when you first start calorie counting to measure out all of your foods for a few weeks to help you get comfortable with what an actual serving size is. Far too often people completely misjudge what they believe to be a portion size, both by too much or too little.
Weigh yourself once a week.
Your weight will fluctuate on a daily basis because of water weight, sodium intake, the temperature outside, etc. It can become all-consuming and frustrating to weigh yourself one day and come in at a loss from the previous day, then eat perfectly all day and weigh in more the next day. Instead weigh yourself once a week, on the same day, at the same time, and wearing the same clothes. This will help you see if your current calorie consumption and exercise routine is working for you or not.

There?s more to calorie counting then simply tallying up your calorie intake, and it?s important to get familiar with all aspects of tracking calories before you start to do so. However, diligently watching your food intake and keeping track of your calories can be extremely beneficial to your weight loss goals. Don?t beat yourself up if you have one bad day, just turn it around the next day and get back on track.

95% The Imposter

All Critics (66) | Top Critics (22) | Fresh (63) | Rotten (3)

Beverly Dollarhide, Nicholas's mother, says of the period after her son's disappearance, "My main goal in life at that time was not to think." Apparently, the filmmakers have taken a cue from her.

Layton's dazzling film is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat experience superior to any Hollywood mystery you're likely to see for a long time.

"The Imposter" becomes more than just a missing-persons drama. It hints at something much darker: a real-life horror story, the full truth of which may never be known.

This is one creepy mystery.

"The Imposter" initially seems to be a tutorial in identity theft, as well as a cautionary tale about the susceptibility of people who have lost a loved one. But that's not the half of it.

Layton's film joins the top ranks of nonfiction films because he recognizes that in this case no solution could be as engrossing as the questions.

[The] unbelievable blend of confidence trickery and seemingly wilful blindness is what fascinates most in The Imposter, and raises more tantalising and disturbing questions.

You couldn't make this stuff up - and no one would buy it as fiction. But as a documentary, it's a different matter.

Layton may be making a sophisticated point about the elusive nature of truth but at the same time, it's a point made at the expense of the Barclays.

The year's most fascinating and frightening doc so far, The Imposter delves far beneath the hysterical tabloid headlines.

It's both preposterous and horrific, and therein lies its powerful, disquieting charm.

The real imposter here is the director.

A fascinating glimpse into the mind of a cunning con-man...and it's just as cunning as he was in constructing the story to hold our interest.

Trails off at the worst possible moment...its flaccid legal summary and closing visual manipulations are intentional, leaving audiences with a thoroughly sickening feeling to appreciate Bourdin's prolonged dance of narcissism.

A terrific tale of deception and self-deception, propelled by the presence of the smirking, cocky Barclay claimant, Fr?d?ric Bourdin.

The idea of "The Imposter" is more intriguing than the film's execution.

Keeps you unsettled, haunted, enthralled.

Everything about this story is unconvincing, except for the fact that it - or some version of it - happened.

The Imposter is one of those rare documentaries that, while its hard to know exactly how much is intensified for the purposes of making the film, is genuinely unsettling and infuriating to believe as fact and fiction.

Director Bart Layton owes a huge debt to Errol Morris, particularly "The Thin Blue Line," for his approach to this incredible story.
