Getting over long depression, wife lost faith...any advice, please

My wife and I haven't been married very long but we've been together for almost ten years. I'm 33. In the beginning things were great. Over the years I was apparently falling deeper and deeper into depression. I was always overly stressed, overly pressured, and for almost the entire period I was watching a sibling slowly die from breast cancer.

I always loved her more than the world itself, but problems started manifesting themselves physically...it's like my brain and body were disconnected. Mentally I always wanted her more than anything but physically my body was just tired, beaten, numb. Over the years we've talked, and it killed me the times she cried out of frustration. I always searched for an answer, to find what was wrong with me...but my approach was always wrong. I thought it was work and would set "milestones" for myself...if I can just achieve "X" the stress will go away, if I can just make a little more the financial stress goes away and I'll feel better. But it never did. I always tried to reason with myself on what the problem was, and I spiraled deeper and paniced more each time I found I was wrong. I thought I was working toward an answer, but instead I was always prolonging the problem.

Lately I've been reading and thinking a lot, and for whatever reason it became crystal clear: I had to make wholesale changes and get some help. I was focusing my energy in the wrong directions and had to change. So I did. I came home one day, umprompted by any recent conversation, and told her no words can express how sorry it took me so long to "get it", but I "get it" and don't want to live like this anymore. I was tired of simply feeling like I existed and not giving her the love and attention she deserved due to my own issues.

Two days after telling her this I found her crying downstairs, she said she was so frustrated for so long and was now angry that I finally had this epiphany. She resented the fact that I never listened to her and it took me this long, and she told me it's like she's gone numb. She says she still loves me but she doesn't want to be sad anymore. We're not separated or divorced, but she says she's trying to figure out what to do. She says she still loves me but she's lost her faith in my ability to change. We've both been seeing therapists, I've had two appointments and she had one this past Saturday. Mine is helping me get to the bottom of what caused everything, kind of a closet cleaning. Hers told her she needs to focus on herself and suggested maybe we need time apart.

It's been five weeks and five days since I drew the line in the sand myself; five weeks and three days since she broke down. Talk about timing. I keep hoping to get through to her and start to reinstill that faith, but her defenses are so tight at this point that forward progress isn't possible. She's trying to figure out where her head is but she says she doesn't want to hurt and be let down again. I know it takes time, I don't expect an overnight change, and I know in my heart this time I'm not going to stop what I'm doing...but she doesn't believe it. I love her more than life itself, always have. She's about the only thing that kept me going a lot of days through the years. I can never express how sick it makes me to know I've hurt her, and if she'll let me I want to spend the rest of my life showing her how good it can be and how much she deserves, not how far I can fall.

I know what I've done, and albeit unintentional I know that I've wronged her. And honestly, I can't blame her for feeling this way. I know I put us here...I can't change the past, and I'm so incredibly sorry it took me so long to realize how to fix my problems, but I always tried to deal with it as best I knew how. She said she's not upset because I've been sick, she's upset because it took so long to figure out how to fix it. Throughout it all I only wanted the best for her, I never meant to knowingly hurt her like this. I always thought i was working on it...next thing I knew years went by. I don't know what to do, except for what I have been for the past five+ weeks. This is the person she signed up for, not the one who was wallowing for years. But she's been unresponsive so far. She notices, and appreciates it, but she thinks it's all just going to stop at some point again. Has anyone been in this situation, on one side or the other? Any advice is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Sorry for the long post, that's the first time I've gotten this all out.

Twitter's Jack Dorsey cuts back on executive chairman role

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Twitter founder and Executive Chairman Jack Dorsey said on Tuesday that he trimmed his role at the microblogging service months ago as he devoted the majority of his time to Square, the payment start-up where he is chief executive.

Dorsey transferred all of his employee supervision to Twitter Chief Executive Dick Costolo in January as part of a pre-arranged transition process, Dorsey disclosed on his Tumblr blog.

"We haven't talked about this publicly because it's not what people using Twitter every day care about," Dorsey wrote.

Dorsey took to his personal blog to clarify his role at Twitter, the messaging service he invented in 2006, after The New York Times reported he had taken on a diminished role at the company after employees complained that he was "difficult to work with."

Dorsey was previously Twitter's CEO until 2008, when he was pushed out by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams. He launched Square that year.

Dorsey returned to his current role at Twitter in March 2011. He caused a stir within Silicon Valley last November when he said at a conference that he worked 8 hours at each company -- totaling 16 hours every day -- by being "very disciplined."

How to Choose the Right Web Hosting for eCommerce Business?

Ecommerce ?is the buying and selling of?products?or?services?over the?Internet. It?draws on such technologies as?electronic funds transfer,?supply chain management,?Internet marketing,?online transaction processing,?electronic data interchange(EDI),?inventory management?systems, and automated data collection systems. Some common eCommerce business applications are, Document automation?in?supply chain?and?logistics, Domestic and International?payment systems, Enterprise content management, Group buying,?Automated online assistants, Online shopping?and order tracking etc etc.

eCommerce sites are more complex than personal web pages, and have to perform many specialized functions. Because of this, ecommerce sites have special needs when it comes to web hosting. You need to be careful when selecting a web hosting service for your ecommerce business. Read on to learn how to find the best web hosting services around.

How To Avoid Downtime?

The most important feature of an ecommerce web hosting provider is an uptime guarantee. Your business cannot afford any downtime. Not only are you losing potential sales with every moment of downtime that passes, but your company?s reputation is being increasingly damaged. No matter that the crash of your website was not your fault, but that of your hosting provider, frustrated consumers aren?t likely to make that distinction, and will usually blame you.

ecommerce business

Look for a hosting provider that offer a 100% uptime guarantee. However, don?t just take the provider?s word for it. Do some research on them. Look for reviews of actual customers, preferably long-time customers, and see for yourself if they have a proven track record of 100% uptime.

To avoid downtime, good technical support is also important. Accidents can happen, and if your website goes down, or experiences any other technical problem, you need to be able to count on a swift and effective response. Find a hosting provider that offers 24 / 7 technical support, and study customer reviews to see if that support has a reputation for effectiveness.

How Much Space Do I Need?

There are, broadly speaking, two kinds of web hosting services: Shared Hosting and Dedicated Hosting. Shared Hosting involves renting space on a server that also hosts other websites. With Dedicated Hosting you are renting an entire server for yourself. Shared Hosting is like renting a hotel room, Dedicated Hosting is like renting the entire hotel.

ecommerce business

Dedicated Hosting has the advantage of providing you with enough space and bandwidth to host even a large, complex website and keep it running smoothly enough that customers never have to wait for pages or forms to load. The disadvantage is that it is the more expensive of the two options. Shared Hosting has the advantage of being cheaper. However, it might not always be able to give you the space or bandwidth you need, especially as you grow. Additionally, sometimes problems with other clients of the web hosting service might cause the hosting service to crash or slow down.

If you have a small business, especially if you work out of the home, a Shared Hosting package will likely be more than adequate for your needs. If you have a large business you really should go with the Dedicated Hosting Package.

You should also try to get as much hard disk space and bandwidth as possible, no matter what size your business is. At a minimum, however, you should determine how much memory your web page programs take up, and how much bandwidth you need for a client to interact with your web page, and how many clients you reasonably expect might be using the site at the same time. Take these figures, triple them, and make sure your provider is providing you with at least this much.

What About Customization And Tools For Ecommerce?

A good hosting service will offer a variety of different service plans based on the size and nature of the business. They will have names like Personal, Small Business, Enterprise, etc. Read the features of each plan and choose which one is the best fit for your business. Make sure that you find out how much it costs to upgrade to a larger plan, in case your business grows enough to need it.

The service should also support the programming languages that you use for your websites. Most web designers prefer PHP, sometimes used along with Javascript. Find out what language your site is written in and make sure that it is supported. The service should also provide tools meant to help ecommerce sites function, such as an email autoresponder, a database, a simple shopping cart, and a variety of free scripts for business applications.

Security

Security is a matter of no small concern. Online businesses are common targets for?cyber thieves?looking to steal credit card numbers, identities, account numbers, and contact information. You need to investigate the level of security and encryption they offer, and see for yourself if you feel comfortable with it. At a minimum you are going to need password protection for certain pages and security to prevent your pages from being hacked.

Customer Convenience

Your customers aren?t going to want to have to fill out a lot of forms to do business with you. Your web hosting provider should offer full integration with popular online merchants. At a minimum it should be able to handle transactions with PayPal, Authorize.Net, and 2checkout.com. These are the most popular online merchants, and most people do business with one or another of them.

Lastly, if you have a large business and are intent on doing everything possible to get ahead, then you should consider becoming your own web hosting provider. This will mean buying your own server, setting everything up, and maintaining it all yourself, but it would give you the advantage of being in control of absolutely everything.

Pushing RVA's limits with a five-mile open water swim - RVANews

Open Water Swim

As bucket lists go, swimming five miles in open water doesn?t strike many as a high priority. But you?d be surprised.

On Saturday, October 14th, over a hundred people are slated to swim five miles in the James River with neither life jacket nor flippers. The event is To the Bridge & Back, and it speaks to RVA?s growing interest in outdoor recreation.

Jay Peluso, founder of Peluso Open Water and organizer of the event, is an experienced triathlon competitor and an active member of the Richmond Triathlon Club (who has served a five-year term as that organization?s Chairman of the Board of Directors). In years past, he said he?s spoken with many who considered competing in a triathlon, but were hindered by a common anxiety: the water.

?People would come up to me and say: ?I?d love to do the triathlon, but I?m not a good swimmer,?? said Peluso. He said that while many people were comfortable swimming laps in a pool, ?a lot of people had a fear of the open water.?

For one, you can?t stand on the bottom like you would in shallow water. Once submerged, visibility is also diminished. People could ?swim in a pool all day,? said Peluso, ?but the fear of the unknown in the open water? is what frightens most.

So, in May 2011, Peluso organized a 750m (nearly 2500 feet) open water swim series in the James to ?get people used to the idea of an open water event.? The first event had 25 swimmers. By the third event, the number of swimmers had doubled. Not only did the number of participants steadily increase, but Peluso noticed the events were drawing both would-be triathlon contenders and exclusive swimmers alike.

As time went on, many of those swimmers, some novices just months ago, became comfortable with the 750m distance?so, Peluso added a 1500m series. Now, Peluso said less people are taking part in the beginner events, opting for longer, more advanced challenges. For some, the biggest challenge will come Saturday.

Waves of 10 swimmers will begin individual races by splashing into the James River at the American Legion Post 354 dock in Midlothian, VA. Swimmers will head upstream toward the World War II Veterans Memorial Bridge (Rte. 288). They will then round an orange buoy (a green buoy for those participating in a simultaneous 2.5-mile race) and return to where they started. One kayaker will monitor each swimmer participating in the five-mile race.1

As of last week, Peluso said over 100 people have registered for To the Bridge & Back. ?It?s really awesome,? he said.

Peluso said that there were several reasons for staging the five-mile To the Bridge & Back swim in October. The first is that the temperature of the James is ?typically good? and should be in the low-to-mid 70s. Peluso said that the river is calmer in October, making if favorable to swimmers.

Another reason for the fall date was to not compete with the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, a 4.4-mile annual summer event that draws nearly 600 people?some from around the country?to Maryland. That event inspired To the Bridge & Back. ?We wanted to start an event that?s a little more local,? said Peluso. If the local triathlon athletes are any indication, RVA is up to the task.

With approximating 800 members, the Richmond Triathlon Club ranks among the top 10 largest in the country. Not only is the club one of the nation?s biggest, but Peluso said local athletes ?do very well in national events.? He said those athletes are only a ?small part of the outdoor athletic community? in RVA. It?s a growing community, one that recently received national recognition.

Last month, Outside Magazine named Richmond the Best Town Ever. For Peluso, the distinction underscores how passionate Richmonders are in celebrating the James River and the many activities associated with it. He said ?Richmond is looking for the next challenge.? He wants To the Bridge & Back to be that challenge.

?Eventually, I would like to see Richmond have a 10k [6.2 miles] open water swim,? he said. While acknowledging the city is not ready just yet to host an event of that scope, Peluso hopes To the Bridge & Back pushes RVA closer to it. With registrants from as far as Chicago, Illinois traveling to participate in Saturday?s event, Peluso is ?hoping we can impress people out of the state? to return home and sing the praises of Richmond and the James.

To the Bridge & Back will takes place on Saturday, October 13th at 4800 Welby Turn, Midlothian, VA 23113.

Edmunds.com Advises Disabled Drivers How to Choose the Best ...

For the millions of drivers who rely on wheelchairs to get around, there are quite a few choices to consider for conversion vehicles, says Edmunds.com, the premier resource for automotive information. But how do these drivers choose among the range of vans, sedans, coupes and SUVs that are available to accommodate their mobility challenges? Edmunds.com helps to sort through these issues with ?Five Questions to Consider when Choosing a Mobility Conversion Vehicle.?

?Picking the right type of vehicle for your disability and your lifestyle is important,? says Edmunds.com Automotive Content Editor Warren Clarke. ?It?s a decision that could have far-reaching effects on your comfort and your finances, so it shouldn?t depend exclusively on your feelings toward a vehicle?s image or appearance. For mobility-challenged drivers, function trumps form by a very wide margin.?

Edmunds.com suggests that anyone who requires a wheelchair-accessible vehicle uses the following five questions to help make the right choice:

1)????? How severe are your mobility challenges? For many disabled drivers who are able to get around without wheelchairs ? and some who may rely on wheelchairs, but who have good upper-body strength ? sedans, coupes or SUVs may be solid options.

2)????? How important are practicality and convenience? Conversion vans and minivans offer superior practicality and convenience. For example, they typically don?t require drivers to hoist themselves from wheelchairs to seats. This isn?t the case with many sedans, SUVs and coupes.

3)????? Are you shopping for both current and future needs? Many mobility-challenged drivers suffer from conditions ? such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, etc. ? that can result in diminishing strength and agility as the years go by. Today, you may have the mobility to easily transfer to a sedan, but that may not be the case two or three years from now.

4)????? What?s the weather like? It?s important to consider how well-suited your potential new conversion vehicle is for use in your particular climate year-round.

5)????? Have you gotten the help of a qualified mobility dealer? A mobility dealer knows the full range of options available to shoppers and is in a position to tell you which choices suit you best. This kind of knowledgeable guidance is essential if you hope to choose a vehicle that will serve as a useful companion both today and years into the future. A qualified local dealer can be found through the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association web site at http://www.nmeda.com/locate-a-dealer/.
